Burnaby infrastructure not ready for zoning changes: Mayor
New legislation in the province allows for the construction of small multi-unit housing, sparking controversy over city planning and the effectiveness of addressing the housing crisis. Mayor Mike Hurley attended the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing development for women and children fleeing domestic violence. The development will include 56 units, with affordable rent and a daycare. However, Hurley is concerned about the impact of new legislation on housing prices and infrastructure, as well as the potential derailment of the Official Community Plan process.
